Catholic Health is committed not only to providing medical and surgical excellence at the highest level but also to addressing the social determinants of health, such as food insecurity. Our six hospital emergency departments and numerous affiliated physician practices now reguarly screen patients for signs of food insecurity. Those identified as food insecure are provided a  "food-to-go" package and are assisted in applying for onoing support, either from Catholic Charities or the Health and Welfare Council of Long Island for assistance with enrollment in the federal government's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
