8th Grade
Confirmation Preparation
In order to be eligible to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation next Fall, the below requirements must be met by all candidates:
Class Attendance
Students are expected to attend all scheduled Religious Education classes. In the event of an absence, parents must complete the missed assignments with their child and email pictures of the completed assignments to absentwork@stjosephgcreled.org. In the event of excessive absences, a child may be required to repeat this final year of Catechism, which would delay the date of his/her Confirmation.
Google Classroom Assignments
Part of the preparation includes independent assignments on Google Classroom. These assignments meet the requirements of the Diocese for all of those preparing for Confirmation. These assignments, entitled My Faith Journey, will be provided through Google Classroom.
The due dates of each assignment are as follows. The completed assignments must be submitted by the students by the due dates listed below.

Community Service
An important part of the Google Classroom Assignments is the community service requirement of Confirmation. The purpose of these assignments is to emphasize the importance of the Gospel’s message of service to others.
Each student must perform three (3) separate community service projects* (note that we do not measure service with a minimum number of hours). If you need assistance in finding opportunities, a list of available events is available in the Religious Education office.
When your child completes any service project, please ask the supervisor for a letter with a signature stating that your child volunteered. These letters will eventually be uploaded into Google Classroom, as part of Assignment #4.
Sponsor
In January, you will receive a Google Form, asking you for the contact information for your chosen Sponsor. Each Sponsor must provide a completed Sponsor Certificate (the RVC Diocesan Form is enclosed in your Parent folder). Completed Sponsor Certificates should be emailed to kpawlowski@stjosephgcreled.org before March 25, 2026.
Interview
Part of Confirmation preparation includes an interview. Each candidate must attend an interview, which will be held in-person in April and May at St. Joseph School. An email will be sent to parents which will contain scheduling information. Remind your children that the purpose of the interview is for them to tell us how meaningful receiving the sacrament is to them.
Retreat
Confirmation students are required to attend a retreat. All students will be scheduled to attend one of the following retreat nights:
- Thursday, September 10, 2026
- Thursday, September 17, 2026
We will email you with your child’s specific date and time once assigned.
Rehearsal
Confirmation rehearsal will be held the week before Confirmation. Sponsors should make every effort to attend. If they are unable to attend, a parent or other adult must attend in their place.
