With deep gratitude for the generosity and compassion that are so characteristic of the parishioners of St. Joseph Parish, last week we were able to send a check for $10,500 to Malteser International, the international rescue and relief arm of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. Availing ourselves of the organization and supervision of the Order of Malta, which has responded to destruction in Turkey, Syria, and Ukraine, we know that these funds will go directly to alleviate the suffering of so many families.
As soon as it became possible, Malteser began sending cargo ships with water, food, medical supplies, and building materials to the inhabitants of Maui. This is only the beginning of what is expected to be years of recovery for the people of Maui – but it IS a beginning!
The St. Joseph-Bishop Baldwin Council of the Knights of Columbus is also supporting the international efforts of the Supreme Council of the K of C in the United States. We that the Knights, as well.
In the words of St. Teresa of Calcutta, we know that we are touching the living body of Christ in the broken bodies of the hungry and the suffering. Each one of them is Jesus in disguise.
Thanks you for your care in this time of crisis.
