Mass of Thanksgiving

Posted on May 17, 2018 in: General News

We Bid Farewell . . .

With a genuine sense of sorrow, we will be bidding farewell in the next few weeks to two valued members of our Pastoral Staff here at St. Joseph: Sr. Kathleen Corr, OP, and Fr. Joseph Scolaro.

Sr. Kathleen has been the Director of Adult Faith Formation for over ten years. Under her capable leadership, working with the Adult Faith Formation Committee, our parishioners have had their faith enriched through annual Lenten missions, evenings of prayer, Sunday Scripture discussion, on-going faith presentations from various speakers, and so much more. While Sr. Kathleen is stepping away from this ministry, she is not leaving the parish. She will continue to reside on St. Joseph Convent. That is good news indeed, since for nearly 25 years, she has been a good friend to all of us.

However, we did receive other sad news – sad for our parish, but a wonderful opportunity for him: Fr. Joseph Scolaro has been appointed by Bishop Barres pastor to the Parish of Notre Dame, New Hyde Park. In the four short years that he has been at St. Joseph, we have all grown to appreciate his dedicated ministry and his pleasant presence. We will miss him, but we know that this assignment is an expression of the Bishop’s confidence in his abilities.

A Mass of Thanksgiving will be celebrated for Sr. Kathleen and Fr. Scolaro at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 10, 2018, followed by a reception in the gym. All parishioners are invited to attend.
