ADULT FAITH FORMATION BOARD

Presents: BIG STONE GAP

The story of Ave Maria Mulligan, who turns 40 in 1978 in a small town in the Appalachian Mountains of southwest Virginia, and thinks that life and love have passed her by. The movie is based on the best-selling novel by Adriana Trigiani, who also directed the movie, insisted that it be filmed in the town, and included many of the townspeople in the cast. Adriana grew up Catholic in Big Stone Gap, as a member of a nearby Glenmary mission, and Glenmary Father John Rausch, who was an associate pastor when Adriana was a young girl, plays “Father John” in the movie. The cast includes Ashley Judd (as Ave), Patrick Wilson and Whoopi Goldberg. No Academy Awards, but a nice, feel-good movie nonetheless.
