This year the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin, August 15, falls on a Saturday. In light of that, it is not a Holy Day of Obligation – the faithful are not obliged to attend Mass. However, the Assumption is one of the most ancient celebrations in the life of the Church, dating back to the 5th c., and its importance should be recognized. Therefore, we will celebrate two Masses in observance of the Assumption – at 8:30 and 10:00 a.m. Parishioners are encouraged to honor the Blessed Virgin, assumed body and soul into heaven, at either one of those Masses. There will be no vigil Mass on Friday.
