Epiphany House Blessings

Posted on December 28, 2014

Next Sunday, January 4, 2015, the Solemnity of the Epiphany, once again we would like to offer to our parishioners the traditional Eastern European Epiphany House Blessing cards that can be placed over the door to you home. The tradition arose from the custom of children visiting neighborhood houses dressed like the three kings. Each house that welcomed them on their journey to Bethlehem was promised a blessing. So the cards that are usually placed over the principal door to the house are marked with the initials of the Magi: C = Caspar; M = Melchior; B = Balthazar, within the numbers of the calendar year. We invite you to take an Epiphany House Blessing with you to use in your own home. Also, if any parishioners would like their house blessed by one of the priests, please call the rectory, and we will try to arrange for a convenient time.
